Charity Concert for Create Boltones

10th October 2015

St Michael's Brass Band played a Charity Concert at Alkrington Community Centre with an audience of 100  people, including "Friends of the Band" plus support from St Michael's Church and from Alkrington Community Association.

Proceeds will go towards "Create Boltones" a musical group of disabled young people in Bolton, where we have a connection.

Pat Ridgeway presented a cheque for £500 to Sue Anderson. Everyone seemed to enjoy the concert, where we played a program of marches, light classical and ballads with Malcolm Hill conducting.

Thank you to our guest players.

   St.  Michael’s Training Band

The Training Band meets on Wednesday evenings, a few players from the main band come along to help and encourage the new players. Learning to play an instrument involves:

(1) Listening to the sound you make and the sounds from the instruments around you.

(2) Learning to play scales

(3) Learning different rhythms

(4) The importance of Discipline and Teamwork

We currently have three learners who are making good progress. The players also benefit from playing in a small group which is a little more relaxing than the main band.

Once the young learners go home, the rest practice various pieces of music aimed at improving the standard of playing. We are all improving and Wednesday evenings are a helpful addition to our daily practice.

NB. New learners are always welcome – we have the instruments to loan if YOU have the time and would like to have a go.
